art

is there something to understand- ruby smiles
youth emerges pre coated dipped in divinity
a moment of immortality equipped with Achilles heel
a sprinkle of salt on spring salad
the new seasoned by the old

youth is fleeting so is conscience - for a while they journey together
until youth takes a hike -age free wheels –
conscience gives up after climbing the first hill

ruby found the heroic with a lose tongue and naked girls
French -slim with deep brown eyes curling dark hair
his tongue whispered between her legs –pledged everlasting life

she died dressed in her nightgown -smoking a Chinese cigarette
knifed in the stomach in a junk strewn Saigon hotel
two questions –
was she screwing someone else
the cigarette
ruby carried stateside on a Spartan shield

death is no respecter of
people-places or of promises made between the legs
by players on a cold war stage
these short memories –of grease paint faces wait around night
there is no enduring sensation other than sweat
her lights went out like a failed Broadway show
